This workshop is all about slowing down, leaving the family/work/cares behind for 3 hours and spending some “you” time with like-minded people learning or reacquainting yourself with “Slow Beading”, the "simple" task of creating your own hand fabricated jewellery.

What is beading?

Well Wikipedia defines it as “Beadwork is the art or craft of attaching beads to one another by stringing them onto a thread or thin wire with a sewing or beading needle or sewing them to cloth. Beads are produced in a diverse range of materials, shapes, and sizes, and vary by the kind of art produced.”

Beading is one of the oldest artforms, and the precursor of jewellery as we know it today. It’s also a way we can reconnect with ourselves through the simple meditative practice of pattern, colour and texture matching or deliberately mismatching to create individual pieces of beaded hand fabricated jewellery, either as a necklace, earrings, or bracelet.

The Slow Beading Workshop details are:

Date: Wednesday 12th April

Time: 6pm to 9pm

Place: Tall Trees Studio, Shop 2/540 Mt Dandenong Tourist Road, Olinda.

A basic kit of tiger tail, base metal fittings for 1 x bracelet and/or 1 x necklace, Australian Sterling Silver for 1 pair earrings will be supplied. You can choose to do one piece or all three, it’s up to you and how you feel on the evening. The idea is to relax and create, this is not a race, except with yourself.

Tools, pliers, bead mats glue etc. will also be supplied for use during the workshop.

Other materials, such as beads, faux pearls, gemstone chips, glass and poly clay bead can be used and will be tallied up and paid for on completion of your piece/pieces.

The evening will start out with a complimentary glass of bubbles, tea and coffee, nibbles are included.

The class will proceed with a minimum of 2 participants with a maximum of 8.
