From Helene F. Campbell
In Greek mythology, a pomegranate is referenced as a gift of love and is associated with eternity. Garnets in their natural state look like pomegranate seeds, thus the Greeks associated Garnets with Love. Nowadays, Garnet remain as a gift of love and are traditionally given for the 19th anniversary of marriage. Now a days Garnet jewellery may also be used as a gift for two-year and six-year anniversaries.

Garnet is also symbolic of a quick return and separated love, since Hades had given a pomegranate to Persephone before she left him to ensure her speedy return. Therefore, Garnet may be given to a beloved before embarking on a trip, as it is believed to heal the broken bonds of lovers.

Ever heard of a Egyptian Ruby? Many ANZAC Diggers at the end of WW1 returning from Egypt were offered Ruby & Gold Rings for their sweethearts back home. Many a ANZAC fiancé found themselves with a love token of Garnet rather than Ruby. When you think about it, the Garnet is a more symbolic love token to receive.
